Untitled
Saab Sk35C Draken
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
SE-DXP / 810/16 (cn 35810) A spike of afterburner compliments the angular planform of the Draken during its display at the RAF Waddington Air Show. The supersonic design was on a par with the Mirage and the smaller century-series fighters like the F-104 during the early 'sixties. Power is from a license-built Rolls Royce Avon with reheat.

Hawker Hunter T7
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
G-FFOX / WV318/D (cn 41H/670792) Chris Heames is seen here getting airborne for his display at the RAF Waddington Air Show in the former Delta Jets Hunter T.7. The aircraft really did serve with 111 Sqn (whose colours it wears) from 1959, and from 1970 to 1991 was with 12 Sqn, used as a conversion trainer for the Buccaneer. The aircraft is currently based at Cranfield.

Untitled
Avro 698 Vulcan B2
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
G-VLCN / XH558 (cn SET12) The Vulcan commences its balletic spiral climb immediately after take-off at the RAF Waddington Air Show. RAF Waddington was one of the original Vulcan V-Bomber stations, hosting three squadrons from 1957 until 1984. The station maintains a static Vulcan exhibit on the eastern side of the airfield, so there were two Vulcans resident for the weekend of the air show.

Saab Sk35C Draken
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
SE-DXP / 810-16 (cn 35810) The Swedish Air Force Historic Flight sent both it Viggen and its Draken to the RAF Waddington Air Show. The Draken is seen here landing after its display. (The last time I saw a Draken was at Farnborough in 1968.)

Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon FGR4
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
ZK308 / TP-V (cn BS059) This 29 Sqn Typhoon has been painted in the markings of a 1940s Hawker Typhoon, with Type C1 roundels, invasion stripes and squadron codes (though sadly not Dark Green and Ocean Grey camouflage), to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day. It is seen here taking off at the RAF Waddington Air Show to participate in a flypast with the BBMF Spitfire IX before putting on its usual spectacular solo display routine. This year’s RAF solo display pilot is Flt Lt Noel Rees.

Boeing RC-135W (717-158)
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
ZZ664 (cn 18773) The RAF’s first Rivet Joint, delivered on 13 November 2013, is seen here arriving back at its base at RAF Waddington after having participated in the station flypast at the start of the station’s 2014 Air Show. Three aircraft were diverted from a USAF order to comprise the RAF’s fleet, which explains the curious hybrid USAF livery with USAF-style lettering spelling-out Royal Air Force along the fuselage. This aircraft was built in 1964 and until recently served as a KC-135R in the USAF.

Short S-312 Tucano T1
Waddington (WTN / EGXW)
UK - England, July 5, 2014
Remark
Photographer
ZF244 (cn S050/T45) Flt Lt Dave Kirby is the 2014 RAF Tucano display pilot; he is seen here returning from his display at the Waddington Air Show during which he had to allow for a low cloud base and considerable humidity. Just after landing, the cockpit has developed its own micro-climate in which swirls of cloud can be seen billowing up around each ejector seat.

Airbus (Qatar Airways)
Airbus A350-941
Farnborough (FAB / EGLF)
UK - England, July 14, 2014
Remark
Photographer
F-WZNW (cn 004) The A350 is seen here making its public UK debut at FIA 2014; it is the biggest new type to appear at Farnborough for some years. The aircraft’s first visit to the UK was actually back on 9th April when it undertook some certification flying at the unlikely venue of Cotswold Airport, supported by Airbus fuel systems engineers from nearby Filton.
