VH-HWQ (cn 1445) Tragic landing incident (4 fatal) overlooking the South Coast of NSW, adjacent to Panorama House. It is believed the R44 clipped trees (top left of pic) and flipped over. Reports that the occupants survived the crash but perished in a post crash fuel fire, staff from the adjacent restaurant attempted to extinguish the fire and rescue the occupants (hence the fire extinguishers visible). While the ATSB will determine the cause, they have stated this R44 was not retrofitted with “bladder tanks”. |

VH-NPP / 047 (cn 57047) First Bell 429 for the Royal Australian Navy under the Retention and Motivation Initiative 2 (RMI 2), provided by Raytheon Australia with temporary registration VH-NPP, to become N49-047. VH-HCE (cn 15283791) Aircraft being recovered after flipping over on hitting the ground just to the left of picture, off the RWY 11C end (vacant lot). Reportedly an “engine failure” on take off with both occupants walking away. As can be seen, aircraft sustained some damage to nose, gear & empennage, being lifted upright by crane (top left out of picture) hence the straps still attached. This aircraft was repaired following its 1988 collision with a Piper 28 (VH-EMZ), so it may well fly again following this mishap. |

N16-118 / 07 (cn WA793) In tribute to 817 sqn RAN FAA, which decommissions Dec 2011, 35 years on S61. 5 Kings on base leg to R21 NAS for the last time as “Shark Black” (Shark 07 leads Sharks 05, 10, 22 and 21). I first saw an 817 sqn King, 32 years ago - resplendent in sqn markings and Navy colours on the flight deck of the carrier HMAS Melbourne; now, sadly devoid of all sqn insignia (much less farewell livery), they will be replaced by the MRH of 808 sqn (in Army colours!) on the LHDs. Until the next time 817 - Aude Facere! |

N45917 (cn 61271) Leased by HELIAUST for lifting and fire fighting, seen here returning from Sydney's Center Point Tower where it lifted “WESTFIELD” signage. Named “The Pres” presumably as it served with the USMC flying President Nixon, it has certainly had some extensive modifications for its 45 years – note the composite rotor blades, light main gear structure and lifting sling. |

A21-48 (cn 0750/AF048) Dedicated to the men and women of the Royal Australian Air Force, 90 years of serving the nation, a very modest yet stylish tail art design - inscription reads “NINETY 1921 – 2011 ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE”. This airframe’s tail previously sported the green and white checks with the famous “grumpy monkey” crest of 77 squadron. The theme of the 90th Anniversary is “Tradition, Innovation, Evolution” with celebrations to take place at the Avalon Airshow 2011 and Point Cook Aerodrome on 31st March 2011. |

N234PH (cn 28050) Good side by side comparison of N234PH with N28065, note different position of blade antennas and different style of main cabin windows; the cockpit side entry doors are interchangeable, N28065 is seen here with the flat perspex door, while 3 days earlier it had the bubble perspex (as seen here on N234PH), which affords excellent visibility for lifting. |
