CF-RRI (cn 163-201) On the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. Downtown Ottawa is just across the river off the left wingtip. The airport above the tail is Ottawa's Rockcliffe Airport (CYRO). The single runway is 09/27 and the large building south of the runway is the Natioanl Aviation Museum. If you visit the museum on the right days you can go for a flight in this Chipmunk! |

CF-RRI (cn 163-201) Just airborne from runway 04, north field, Ottawa international airport for an in-flight photo shoot. Yellow and red aircraft on ground below left tire is a Navion (which since has been painted white and maroon). This Chipmunk is housed in the convex roofed canvas hanagar at mid-right of the photo. The engine is running...the shutter speed was too fast! |

CF-RRI (cn 163-201) Crossing the frozen Ottawa River just west of Ottawa on a rather cold winter's day. The Canadian Chipmunk has a state-of-the-art cockpit heater for its era (rudimentary) and is quite comfortable down to outside air temperatures of minus 15 degress Centigrade or so, especially on sunny days with radiant heating through the bubble canopy. The rear cockpit is not as warm as the front, however, and on really cold days an hour or so in the back is quite enough! |

CF-RRI (cn 163-201) An accidental photo of two vintage aircraft taken at the north field of Ottawa international airport. The Douglas DC-3/C-47 is a former RCAF Dakota, which then and now (October 2000) is owned and operated by Environment Canada. The Chipmunk (1951) is a former RCAF trainer, retired in 1964. Note the wood prop. Most Chipmunks are operated with a metal prop. |

L7180 Restored by George Neal, former Chief Test Pilot, de Havilland Canada and member Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame. The aircraft is beautifully and accurately restored and is airworthy but not flown. This is a demonstration run-up at the National Aviation Museum's annual Canada Day "open-house". A spectacular sight and sound! It is being run-up by George Neal himself who comes to Ottawa annually on this day to enjoy his workmanship and to be annoyed that he is not allowed to fly it! |
