EI-BGP (cn 414A-0016) The flagship of the Iona fleet at the time and their first pressurized aircraft “Tales of the Riverbank GP” as she was known was originally the Cessna 414A demonstration aircraft in the States before being delivered to Iona in 1979. It is seen here at the back of the old Iona hangar totally stripped down in the middle of a major overhaul, it was back in service again a few months after this picture was taken but was sold four years later and ferried across the Atlantic eventually being registered as N43MR |

The once very active Iona clubhouse is on the right which was the Irish Aero Club’s center of operations at the airport for nearly 40 years and was the point where many pilots started their career in aviation |

This is the air traffic controllers view from the Shannon tower looking south east over the west apron and terminal building, with the Shannon Estuary on the horizon. On the left taxiway Alpha leads to the 3200 meter (10499 feet) runway 06/24 the longest in Ireland. It was a quiet afternoon with not much activity at the airport |
