N1940K / R-ED (cn MK9EX) The FAA lists this beautiful Spitfire replica as "amateur built" which hardly seems fair. Until I researched the registration I had no idea this was not a painstaking restoration. |

N328RB / 137645/D-316 (cn 200-8) This is the result of an inflight engine failure over a broad smooth beach and a skillful landing. The shot was taken after we stepped out, uninjured, and before any people arrived. I believe the airplane is being rebuilt by a new owner. See photo ID 1471785 for Mick Bajcar's picture of the airplane in better times. |

N724RX (cn 001) Listed by the FAA as a Snead Special, this amateur built aircraft was no doubt built by Mr. Snead. In any case it is beautiful. |

N636X (cn 14135) This is likely the airplane's last takeoff, as the flight was a ferry to Planes of Fame in Valle, Arizona, where it will become part of the museum's permanent display. |

N636X (cn 14135) I'll have to talk to Jeff Whitesell about his choice of days for a test hop--this was a gloomy one. I believe this is the only airworthy Martin in the country. |

61-2775 (cn 300-6001) The first C-141 built, this is one of four that were never converted to C-141Bs. It spent it's entire service life as a test airframe in a variety of roles. I was fortunate to visit the Lockheed factory at Dobbins AFB before this airplane had it's roll-out ceremony and saw her under construction, in 1963. Now, 44 years later, she's been a museum piece since 1998. Thanks to the crews who flew her safely all that time. |

51-2881 (cn 10870) Delivered new to the Royal Canadian Air Force as 22118, this airplane never had a USAF serial number. The display tail number is the serial number it would/should have had (51-2881) if it had been a USAF asset, based on an earlier block of Fairchild-built C-119s and the contractor number. After retirement from military service Hawkins and Powers operated the airplane with the civilian registration N3559. The AMC museum has done a fine job of restoration to USAF configuration. |
