Untitled
Boeing 377-10-26 Stratocruiser
Mojave (MHV)
USA - California, July 1969
Remark
Photographer
N1042V (cn 15942) Sadly, this the only picture of this ex Pan Am aircraft in the database. Clipper Morning Star, later Clipper Polynesia. Manufactured in 1949, retired in 1960. For whatever reason, the airplane is still listed in the FAA database in 2005.Things have changed since 1969: That's my car in the photo, and I didn't drive through any gates or pass any checkpoints to pull right up to the airplane.

Untitled
North American T-28B Trojan
Off-Airport - Oxnard
USA - California, April 24, 2007
Remark
Photographer
N328RB / 137645/D-316 (cn 200-8) This is the result of an inflight engine failure over a broad smooth beach (Mandalay State Beach) and a skillful landing. The shot was taken after we stepped out, uninjured, and before any people arrived. I believe the airplane is being rebuilt by a new owner. See photo ID 1471785 for Mick Bajcar's picture of the airplane in better times.

American Airlines
Douglas DC-3-178
El Paso - International (ELP / KELP)
USA - Texas, Early 1940's
Remark
Photographer
NC16013 (cn 1551) Flagship Virginia. Photo taken by my late father William C.Wall Sr. around 1940 and scanned from the original Kodachrome slide. El Paso native and resident John Paul Jones has confirmed that this is indeed El Paso and reports the following: "Originally it [the airport] was built by Standard Airways in 1935 and was known by that name till Standard was absorbed by the new American Airways, soon to become American Airlines. The city of El Paso bought the property and moved their Municipal Airport there after making improvements in 1936 but American remained the prime tenant and it was identified as such." I thank Mr. Jones very much for his help positively identifying the airport in this picture.

Pan American World Airways - Pan Am
Boeing 747-121
Los Angeles - International (LAX / KLAX)
USA - California, November 1969
Remark
Photographer
N734PA (cn 19641/7) Clipper Flying Cloud, later Clipper Champion of the Seas. First flown on 10/31/1969, Pan Am brought this 747, line number 7, to LAX in November 1969 for it's debut showing and public display. I believe this was the very first time a 747 was at LAX. The photograph was taken on the Imperial Terminal ramp. 734PA flew for Pan Am until the airline ceased operations in 1991. Later with UPS as N691UP, the airplane has now been scrapped.

USA - California, August 28, 2005
Remark
Photographer
NX712Z / X-133 (cn 3869) Shot at the annual EAA Camarillo air show. This year the CAF's Zero and FM2 Wildcat (N5833, in British Martlett c/s) staged a mock dogfight for the crowd. They were not as close as the picture makes them seem.

American Airlines
Douglas DC-3-277B
Unknown
USA - Unknown State, Early 1940's
Remark
Photographer
NC25673 (cn 2213) "Flagship Big Spring". Taken by my late father (W.C. Wall Sr) at an unknown location. The trademark AA flag, flown from the FO's window, is an interesting aspect of this photograph. Flew for AAL, 1940-1947, then sold to Trans Texas. At last report, leased by Continental Airlines and painted in CAL 1950s colors. Possibly still on the air show circuit as N25673.

USA - California, August 28, 2005
Remark
Photographer
NX39606 / 139606/AH-500 (cn 10838) I'm sure Bob Grondzik enjoys putting on the show at least as much as the crowd enjoys watching. And listening.
