That's Siberia ! We fly westbound to Europe, 68 degrees north latitude, 1 p.m. local time. One of few southbound flights in the area, originating from the polar region, crosses our route perpendicularly, 20 miles ahead of us, 1.000 meters below. They are getting a very fast early afternoon sunrise. We enjoyed during several hours the wonderful colours of sunset, before the sun rose again over Finland. Simply magic ! |

A westbound Cathay Pacific 747-400 contrailing at 9.600 meters over Siberia, 500 meters below us, 3 a.m. local time. This very special light was offered by a low full moon and the very first light of the rising sun. |

We had been flying the same North Atlantic Track for hours, same ground speed, 1000 feet above, 10NM behind. Just as contrail and sunset light became simultaneously good for picturing, they made an unexpected route offset, maybe to avoid a wake turbulence. Thanks guys ! |

Mid-afternoon view from FL 340 of a busy Heathrow, offering an update on terminal 5, and a view of the remains of the early runways that were abandoned in the late 50's upon building of the central terminals. Only aircraft that can be identified with no doubt, the BA Concorde is temporarly parked on the bank of runway 23, awaiting completion of her final exhibition place. |

D-AIMC (cn 312) View from the cockpit of AFR 188, southeast-bound to HKG at F.L. 11.400 meters over the Gobi desert. A lot of emotion before such a scenery ! On opposite track at 10.800 meters, en route MNL-FRA after maintenance, this all-white A330 will shortly be delivered to Blue Wings. Thanks to Andreas, Thomas and Jamie for their help in the identification of this albino. |

Jumpseat view of NRT's second runway, opened in 2002 after more than 10 years of - still unresolved - dispute with local landowners, that led the original project to be shifted to the north. The unusable south section, marked by red crosses, is split from the 2.180 m runway by a private property. The taxiway deviates around another property; due to lack of lateral separation, aircraft must hold for traffic on the runway before entering the by-pass. |
