160599 / NG-700 (cn 394A-3179) On the flight deck of USS Hornet, this S-3B Viking basks in the afternoon sun. Though looking at home on the flight deck of this famous aircraft carrier, it's a shame the aircraft have to endure the strong sun fading paint and breaking down the Perspex canopies. |

158137 / 00 (cn 14174) Formerly played a role with the USAF as an aggressor aircraft, this Skyhawk now resides on board USS Hornet on static display. It's paint fading in the strong sun on the flight deck. It’s nice to see this aircraft, though a pity to be deteriorating in the elements. The Royal Australian Air Force formerly operated a variant of this aircraft too, then sold them off to the New Zealand Air Force. Subsequently the RNZAF finally sold them off, back to the states to JDI Holdings for near 8 million dollars for 8 aircraft. |

N4614 / 349 (cn 299-419) On the flight deck of the World War II built USS Hornet is this yellow T-28 Trojan. It seems to have had a repaint in recent times from its previous red and white colour scheme. This aircraft carrier was made famous for carrying Colonel Jimmy Doolitttle's fleet of B-25s which carried out a bombing raid on Tokyo in April 1942. |

143703 / NL-412 Whilst visiting SFO, I heard about the USS Hornet Museum. On the flight deck of this old lady of the seas was this Vought Crusader in pristine condition. I thought I'd accentuate its lines by lying on the deck and shoot upwards, giving it a more sleek look. If you're in San Francisco, I'd recommend a visit to this museum, there are many aircraft and the below deck tours are equally as interesting. |
