East Fortune
UK - Scotland, April 23, 2013
Remark
Photographer
G-AHKY (cn 4426) The M18 was a two seat tandem trainer which first flew in 1938 as a Mark1 and this was the sole Mk2 built. This aircraft won the Goodyear Trophy in 1956 and Kings Cup Air Race in 1961. This is the sole surviving M-18 in the excellent Museum of Flight.

Germany - Air Force
Messerschmitt Me-163B-1a Komet
East Fortune
UK - Scotland, April 23, 2013
Remark
Photographer
191659 / 15 (cn 191659) One of the real stars of the superb Museum of Flight. The Komet was a rocket powered interceptor aircraft with a performance far better than any allied aircraft of the time though it was hampered by a very short flight time. It entered service in May 1944. The wheeeled undercarriage dropped away on take-off with the aircraft landing on a skid in a similar way to that which most gliders do.
