N215PJ (cn 172S9711) In the heyday of drug trafficking, Norman's Cay was the airport of choice for smugglers. Flying into an unlit airport at night wasn't easy, a fact illustrated by wrecked aircraft such as the C-46 ditched in the ocean just East of the field. Nowadays it more reputable; the Bahamas & Caribbean Pilot's Guide advises that it's an "ideal destination for pilots who want to see their parked plane from their room, enjoy a beautiful, unspoiled beach, and watch incredible sunsets."

Exuma - Norman's Cay (NMC / MYEN)
Bahamas, October 31, 2006
Remark
Photographer
An old drug runners paradise, Norman's cay. Pablo Escobar used this island as a half way point to smuggle cocaine into the United States, around the island you can find planes ditched into the ocean and the pine trees. Now Norman's Cay has been cleaned up and is a great spot to go and lie on the beach. The runway is still wet from an earlier rain shower and in terrible condition with many potholes and cracks in it. A Bahamian version of my Cedar Key overview.
