Canadian Warplane Heritage
De Havilland (Canada) DH-82C Tiger Moth II
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, September 15, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-GCWT / 8922 (cn DHC1724) This is one of 1550 Tiger Moths built in Canada from a total of around 7800. The Canadian version was less nimble than the British version due to a jettisonable cockpit canopy, cockpit heating, wheel brakes, a tail wheel and a more powerful engine. However , these modifications were much more suitable for harsher Canadian conditions. This aircraft served with 12 EFTS, Goderich, ON and 4 EFTS, Windsor Mills, QC until 1945. After a long period of storage it was made airworthy again by the CWHM in 1977.

Untitled
Bristol 149 Bolingbroke Mk4T
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, September 15, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-GBLY The Bolingbroke was intended as an improved version of the Blenheim but immediately pre-WWII the British were in urgent need of actual plane numbers on the ground rather than down-the-line projects. Development was handed over to the Canadians and the end result was 626 Bolingbrokes produced between 1939 and 1943. The CWHM's trainer Bolingbroke is currently being rebuilt to flying condition from the remains of eight aircraft, salvaged from Manitoba, during the mid 1980s.

C-GCWG (cn 3920) This Avenger built by General Motors, Eastern Aircraft Division in 1945 and flew with the US Navy as 53858 until the early 1950s. Later it operated as a spray plane and then on forestry protection duties before being sold to a French aircraft preservation group (hence the previous F-WQON reg.) and is now under restoration to flying condition by the CWHM.

United Nations (Canada - Air Force)
De Havilland Canada DHC-5D Buffalo
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, September 15, 2014
Remark
Photographer
115461 (cn 85) Overview of the outside exhibits belonging to the Canadian Warbird Heritage Museum. Note the two 727s hiding in the background, of which there were a total of at least eight dispersed around the field. It's a long time since I've seen so many 727s together in one place. The Buffalo was formerly ST-AHP of the Sudanese AF but has been restored in this UN scheme to commemorate the Canadian crew of the real '115461' who were killed when the plane was shot down over Syria on 9th Aug. 1974.

Canadian Warplane Heritage
Douglas DC-3-201B
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-GDAK / KN456/Z (cn 2141) The Museum’s DC-3 Dakota displays the markings of RCAF No. 435 and 436 Squadrons, which operated in Burma during 1944-45 and whose slogan was "Canucks Unlimited". The DC-3 was built in June 1939 for Eastern Airlines, where it flew for over 13 years. In 1952, it went to North Central Airlines who operated it for another 11 years. The aircraft then left airline service, but continued to fly commercially until 1981. It is one of the highest time DC-3s currently still flying with over 82,000 hours in the air.

Boeing PT-17 Kaydet (A75N1)
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-FAIU / FK107 (cn 75-2180) Manufactured in 1943 by Boeing. It was built at Wichita, Kansas. During its earlier life it was owned by a former Spitfire pilot. In 1988, it is owned by the museum. 8,430 Stearmans were built before manufacturing ended in 1944. No other American biplane was ever produced in such numbers. Very impressively, over 1,000 Stearman trainers remain in flying condition today.
