Canadian Warplane Heritage
Douglas DC-3-201B
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-GDAK / KN456/Z (cn 2141) The Museum’s DC-3 Dakota displays the markings of RCAF No. 435 and 436 Squadrons, which operated in Burma during 1944-45 and whose slogan was "Canucks Unlimited". The DC-3 was built in June 1939 for Eastern Airlines, where it flew for over 13 years. In 1952, it went to North Central Airlines who operated it for another 11 years. The aircraft then left airline service, but continued to fly commercially until 1981. It is one of the highest time DC-3s currently still flying with over 82,000 hours in the air.

Boeing PT-17 Kaydet (A75N1)
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
C-FAIU / FK107 (cn 75-2180) Manufactured in 1943 by Boeing. It was built at Wichita, Kansas. During its earlier life it was owned by a former Spitfire pilot. In 1988, it is owned by the museum. 8,430 Stearmans were built before manufacturing ended in 1944. No other American biplane was ever produced in such numbers. Very impressively, over 1,000 Stearman trainers remain in flying condition today.

Untitled (Canadian Warplane Heritage)
Grumman (General Motors) TBM-3E Avenger
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
F-WQDN (cn 3920) I'm interested in seeing the wing-folding mechanism, and this visit to YHM gives me an opportunity to get so close to look at it. This "compound angle" wing-folding mechanism created by Grumman Co., featured on Avenger and intended to maximize storage space on an aircraft carrier. This Avenger is a TBM-3E built by GM, Eastern Aircraft Division in 1945. It flew with the US Navy until the early 1950s. Later it was converted to a spray plane from 1963 to 1972. It was retired from commercial service in 1992.

CCF T-6 Harvard Mk4
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
CF-UUU / 20213 (cn CCF4-4) The North American Harvard appeared in 1937. A total of 20,110 Harvards were built between 1938 and 1954, 3,370 of them in Canada. Countless numbers of privately owned Harvards are still flying today. This Harvard Mk. IV was built by Canadian Car & Foundry, Thunder Bay, Ontario in late 1951. It serviced in flying school until 1965. It was donated to Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in 1973. C-GVRA (Avro 683 Lancaster B10) is in the background.

Fairey Firefly AS6
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
VH142 (cn F.8755) This Firefly was built in 1951 and first served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, at Ford, UK. Later, it was transferred to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in 1953, and retired from the RAN in 1960 and ended up in a museum in New South Wales, Australia. Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum purchased it in 1979. It seems currently some repair work is going on for this Firefly.

Boeing 727-227/Adv(F)
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 30, 2014
Remark
Photographer
721 (cn 20772/982) Two cargo planes park side by side; one is old, already out of service, and the other new, still operating. This Purolator B727, built in 1973, was registered as C-GIKF, and its certificate of registration was cancelled on April 7, 2014. Now the registration mark is erased, and the engines have been removed. That UPS A300F4 was manufactured in 2002, registered as N142UP.

Untitled
De Havilland DH-98 Mosquito FB26
Hamilton (YHM / CYHM)
Canada - Ontario, June 15, 2014
Remark
Photographer
N114KA / KA114/EG-Y (cn KA114) One of the few airworthy Mosquitos (ex ZK-MOS) flew in for the Father's Day weekend airshow hosted by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. As an added bonus, the Mosquito joined B-24 Liberator 'Diamond Lil' and the Museum's Lancaster for an exclusive night runup. Kilo Alpha seen just after engine start on the Warplane Museum Ramp. These night runups are always worth the money, and really give once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that can't be missed. Thanks to the CWHM for hosting such an event!
