G-BZPB / WB188 (cn 41H/670762) This Hunter is registered to Barry Pearson of Exeter but is one of a number in the care of Delta Jets at Kemble. Built by Hawkers at Kingston in 1954 as RAF F.4 WV256, it was subsequently converted to a GA.11 and served with the Royal Navy at Yeovilton. It is painted to represent the P.1067 (Hunter) prototype in the scheme it wore for the type’s first flight in July 1951, complete with oversize upper-wing roundels, and is pictured here parked against Delta’s coincidentally-matching hangar. |

XX889 / T (cn B3-05-73) This Gulf War veteran, stored for some time at Staverton, is owned by the Blackburn Buccaneer Society and is in the process of restoration. It is seen here outside the new Delta Jets hangar at Kemble. (The desert pink colour scheme makes it look almost obscenely naked in this view, the oblique sunlight highlighting its cellulite and stretch marks…) |
