VH-ILT (cn D-9105) V-Tail Bonanza VH-ILT photographed after arrival at Lilydale Airfield in 1974. A similar aircraft (Reg N3794N, named 'Miss American Pie') crashed near Mason City Iowa, USA, soon after midnight on 03Feb1959. The crash claimed the lives of Rock and Roll Legends: Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper.) They were immortalised in Don Maclean's tribute ballad (Bye Bye Miss) 'American Pie'). Hence, Tuesday 03Feb2009 is the 50th Anniversary of 'The Day the Music Died'. RIP. |
