9N-ACT Lukla sits at 9,380ft AMSL. Large transport helicopters bring in supplys from Kathmandu on a regular basis, while Twin Otters bring in tourists, to start their climb up Mt Everest. [scanned image] |

9N-AET (cn 619) A busy day at Lukla Airport. Seen here is a takeoff of a Twin-Otter, with the next one ready to go. A Do-228 had to park on the runway because all parking spots were full. Due to bad weather on the previous days, there were a total of 42 flights on this day! Of interest: only pilots with over 7 years' experience are allowed to land here! |

9N-A** I have enjoyed watching take-offs and landings from this spectacular strip. Take-offs do not seem as scary as the landings in Lukla with the vertical wall at other end Rwy 24 and no second change for a go-around. The lift-off is just past the half way point on the runway. Runway elevation is 9,200 feet, mountain ahead at about 12,000 feet. All flights clear the mountain en-route to Kathmandu. |

Afternoon clouds moved in and the airport shut down after 22 arrivals from Kathmandu that day. Military exercises on the runway at Lukla (9200 Feet) started and continued throughout the night. |

Looking down the Lukla airstrip. The V1 is probably 2 feet after they release the brakes for takeoff roll! |
