McDonnell Douglas A-4F Skyhawk
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, March 22, 1993
Remark
Photographer
154976 / AF-7 (cn 13792) Except for the faded and weathered underwing fuel tank, this Super Fox Scooter is pristine in a fresh coat of Gloss Engine Gray. Other than the different Bu. No., it appears much the same as another Super Fox (given this unofficial name for the uprated P&W J-52 engine) in photo 2013878, with one important difference: The code for Reserve Carrier Air Wing-20 is now seen on the tail. Now under "new management", VFC-12 Omars at Oceana, VA formerly belonged to the now-defunct Fleet Logistics Support Group.

Beech T-34C Turbo Mentor (45)
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, February 2, 1990
Remark
Photographer
160278 / 1 (cn GL-14) This uniquely colored Navy trainer marked the first time I photographed specially marked T-34Cs from Light Attack Wing-1 and later Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic. The "Light Attack" designation shows the dominance of the A-7 Corsair at Cecil Field, FL, where this "Tormentor" was based for bombing range duties. The name change came with the replacement by the "strike" F/A-18. Over the next several years, I saw a number of other range aircraft from this unit.

McDonnell Douglas RF-4C Phantom II
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1987
Remark
Photographer
66-0421 (cn 2152) It's late Friday afternoon, the day before the Dobbins AFB 1987 air show, and this "Magnolila Militia" recce Phantom rests quietly on the Dobbins ramp. A few minutes earlier, it had performed a very "hot" initial approach and tight 360 into the overhead for 11 landing, all with maximum noise! Airshow arrival days were usually a lot of fun... 186th TRG, Mississippi ANG, Meridian, MS.

McDonnell Douglas A-4F Skyhawk
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1987
Remark
Photographer
155017 / NJ-621 (cn 13833) The transit lineman and the pilot watch the noisy and dramatic arrival of the Miss. ANG RF-4C while standing next to quite a showpiece of a Skyhawk. The glare of the sunlight reveals the matte finish of the paint surface, and the scheme is one of those notorious adversary color orgies! (Loosely based on Israeli desert camouflage). This sharp Scooter is on display for the 1987 Dobbins air show, coming from NAS Miramar, CA, and VF-126 Bandits.

Grumman F-14A Tomcat
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1987
Remark
Photographer
161297 / NM-200 (cn 423) One Sunday afternoon, a Tomcat over Chattanooga, TN declared an emergency and was routed to NAS Atlanta. It resided there for the next 3 days while its hydraulic system was repaired, supplying me with my only chance to photograph anything from short-lived (10-86 to 4-88) CVW-10. In Hangar 1, this is the CAG bird for VF-194 Red Lightnings, full color on Gloss Gull Gray.

McDonnell Douglas TA-4J Skyhawk
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, April 2, 1989
Remark
Photographer
155118 / C-413 (cn 13934) A nice subject for a brilliant afternoon on the NAS Atlanta t-line is this Scooter from NAS Chase Field, TX, and VT-24 Bobcats. It is painted in the standard Navy training colors of Gloss International Orange and Gloss Insignia White, with the forward portions of the external fuel tanks in matte black as an interesting detail.

McDonnell Douglas TA-4J Skyhawk

USA - Georgia, May 10, 1989
Remark
Photographer
158092 / 12 Its normally lustrous Engine Gray finish has been allowed to deteriorate to a dull matte, causing this two-seat Scooter to show its age... Paying a visit to the NAS Atlanta t-line from NAS Oceana, VA, this TA-4 belongs to Fighter Composite Sqn. 12 Omars; aircraft from this unit were frequent visitors to NAS Atlanta during my time there.

Vought A-7E Corsair II
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, April 21, 1989
Remark
Photographer
157498 / AF-302 The weathered finish of the Tactical Paint Scheme on this Corsair II makes it difficult to discern the markings, even in bright sunlight! However, the small State of Florida figure on the tail at least shows fairly clearly; from the mid-80s the attack sqn's of Reserve Carrier Air Wing 20 all used the image of their respective home states as their tail insignia. This one was with VA-203 Blue Dolphins based at Cecil Field.

McDonnell Douglas TA-4J Skyhawk
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, February 21, 1989
Remark
Photographer
158488 / QZ-21 Judging by the noonday shadows, this TinkerToy has stopped in for both fuel and lunch for the crew. Visiting from NAS Willow Grove, PA where it is assigned to Marine Reserve Headquarters and Maintenance Sqn. 49, it carries a fairly decent TPS finish, though the tail code letters seem almost to have disappeared...

General Dynamics FB-111A Aardvark
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1985
Remark
Photographer
68-0259 (cn B1-31) The 1985 Dobbins AFB air show featured beautiful weather and an amazing variety of display aircraft. One of the more interesting examples was this Aardvark from the 509th Bomb Wing at Pease AFB, NH, in what has been called the SIOP (Single Integrated Operational Plan) color scheme, which was actually a variant of the "Vietnam" T.O. 1-1-4 scheme. The "mushroom cloud" wing insignia shows clearly, as a legacy of the only operational use of nuclear weapons.

Fairchild UC-123K Provider
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1985
Remark
Photographer
54-0585 (cn 20034) Another attendee of the 1985 Dobbins air show was something of a celebrity in this Provider with the underwing spray bars- the same configuration used by Ranch Hand Providers during the Vietnam War to deliver the notorious Agent Orange defoliant... Fortunately a long way removed from that, this classic "old iron" humbly poses for the air show crowd; it is one of four left in service with the 356th Tactical Airlift Sqn., 907th TAGrp., Aerial Spray Branch, Air Force Reserve, Rickenbacker AFB, OH.

Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, March 23, 1990
Remark
Photographer
61-7958 (cn 2009) The king is dead... The small Blackbird fleet of the 9th Strategic Recon. Wg. at Beale AFB, CA, was phased out of the USAF at the beginning of 1990. By special arrangement through Lockheed Georgia Public Affairs, the plane going to the Robins AFB museum diverted for some low passes at Dobbins on the way on this unfortunately overcast day (it is star of the collection to this day). Yeah, I know 2 Habu's were reactivated in 1995-8 but they didn't quite become operational before they were cut (again!!).

North American T-2B Buckeye
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 8, 1990
Remark
Photographer
155229 / F-55 (cn 310-24) Another Buckeye was parked on the NAS Atlanta main ramp for the 1990 air show static display, and its International Orange and Insignia White color scheme looked handsome in the late afternoon light. This one also came from Carrier Training Wing 6, NAS Pensacola.

De Havilland Canada YC-7A Caribou (AC-1/CV-2A/DHC-4A)
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, June 1985
Remark
Photographer
57-3082 (cn 7) A later support plane for the Army Parachute Team "Golden Knights" is shown demonstrating a short field landing at the 1985 Dobbins AFB air show. During the war in Vietnam, though the C-130 was considered the most versatile transport, the Caribou (and also the C-123 Provider) was very useful in operating from "airstrips" (often nothing more than wide paths carved out of the vegetation) that were too short for the Herk. This one has more color than the earlier one, and the directional smoke is still on!

Lockheed C-130H Hercules (L-382)
Marietta - Dobbins ARB (Atlanta NAS) (MGE / KMGE)
USA - Georgia, September 1987
Remark
Photographer
735 (cn 382-5070) A brilliant afternoon brings out the handsome colors and markings of this C-130H at rest on the west Lockheed flight test line. This was the final aircraft of a batch of five (the other 4 were handed over much earlier)for the Republic of Singapore Air Force, and was due shortly for delivery to No.121 Sqn. at Changi. A new C-5B Galaxy in its factory applied Europe 1 camouflage may be seen in the left background.
