149761 / TF-15 (cn 63) HSL-33 Detachment 10 "Seasnakes". On USS Knox (FF-1052), at Fremantle, as part of USS Carl Vinson carrier battle group, returning to the USA after a Westpac cruise. Built as a UH2K-1, redesignated UH-2A in 1962. Served in Vietnam from 1964 with HC-7, painted in camouflage for combat rescue of downed aircrews, and badly shot up by enemy gunfire on three occasions in 1967 - one of which killed a crew member. Later converted to UH-2C then SH-2F, as seen here. To AMARC 20 Aug 1992 as 8H0014.

162120 / TZ-45 (cn 700411) HSL-45 Detachment 13 "Wolfpack". On USS Vincennes (CG-49), docked at Fremantle. Vincennes accidentally shot down an Iran Air Airbus A300 on 3 July 1988. Visited with USS Elliot (DD-967), USS Knox (FF-1052), & USS Robison (DDG-12), as part of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) carrier battle group, returning to the USA after a Westpac cruise. USS Carl Vinson anchored off Fremantle. 162120 was flying with HSL-51 as at April 2010.

Assigned to HC-5 Detachment 3 "Wishers", USN, on USS Niagara Falls (AFS-3), at Victoria Quay, Fremantle, which was supporting USS Enterprise (CVN-65) battlegroup, operating in Indian Ocean. Originally delivered to US Marine Corps as a CH-46A on 28.8.1964, served with many units. Later redesignated as HH-46A on 4.2.74, later conv to HH-46D. WFU and struck off charge on 2.4.03.

810 (cn 283) Aboard helicopter cruiser FNS Jeanne D'Arc (R97) of the French Navy on an extremely rare visit to Fremantle, returning to France after a special Pacific cruise to celebrate Bastille Day. France ordered 80 Lynxes, later reduced to 40, delivered 1977-1983. This is one of 14 HAS.4(FN) delivered in 1983, with the uprated engines and gearbox of the Royal Navy's Lynx HAS.3, but retaining the avionics of older Lynx HAS.2(FN)s.

Seen here when with 35F. Still active May 2007 with 31F. This is one of 26 HAS.2(FN) ordered. To the right is 810 a Lynx HAS.4(FN) (cn 283), of 35F, one of 14 HAS4(FN) delivered in 1983.

1***** / NF USS Midway (CV-41), docked in Fremantle. Midway was built during World War Two, commissioned on 10 September 1945. At this time it was based at Yokosuka, Japan. Decommissioned on 10 April 1992, she is now a floating aircraft museum in San Diego, California. Aircraft aboard belonged to Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5), including F/A-18A Hornets of VFA-195, VFA-192 & VFA-151; A-6E & KA-6D Intruders of VA-115 & VA-185; EA-6B Prowlers of VAQ-136; E-2C Hawkeyes of VAW-115, and SH-3H Sea Kings of HS-12.

Served 5 different HS squadrons at NAS Jacksonville, FL. Cvtd to SH-3H mid-1980s, then SAR for NAS Jacksonville & NAS Pensacola, FL, then HS-10. To HS-12, USS Midway in 1989 - early 1990s. Flew 300 hrs in first 100 days of Op. Desert Storm. To VIP Heli Detachment for Commander, 7th Fleet in 1994 with HSL-51, cvtd to UH-3H "Blackbeard 01". SOC 5 Oct 2005, preserved NAS Atsugi, Japan.

162883 / NF-302 (cn 0430/A355) Assigned to VFA-192 "Golden Dragons", CVW-5. Aboard USS Midway (CV-41), docked in Fremantle. Delivered to VFA-192 in 1986. Later assigned to Naval Strike and Air Warfare Centre, NAS Fallon, Nevada, with code number 52, painted sand and brown (see David Ilott's 1995 photo). w/o 18.12.02 crashed 6 miles North of Gabbs, Nevada - due to fuel starvation during air wing training. Pilot ejected safely.

Next is 162229/NF-604 which later saw combat in Operation Desert Storm before being w/o 19.3.92 - crashed 55 miles south west of Whidbey Island, near Mount Olympus, Washington. Last is 162936/NF-605, which also saw combat in Desert Storm and is still flying with VAQ-138 in Oct 2009.
