N8806E / 906 (cn 22-00-21) Originally delivered to Delta Airlines in 1960 where it flew until 1973. Later it went to Onyx Aviation and to some private operator. It was abandoned in Lisbon in the early 1980's and sold to a private owner to pay the parking fees. It was converted into a roadside restaurant near Lisbon airport and recently a strip club. Sadly it was scrapped on this day. Game over for the old Convair. |

EP-IAD (cn 21758/371) A true classic in the sky today. One of the remaining Boeing 747SP still active is seen here at cruise level over Lisbon airport. I have to say that initially I was confused as it was the first time ever I spotted an SP this way, but after some precious help I got the confirmation of the model and the registration. Perhaps the luckiest photo I ever did (well...I did more than 60!). EOS 30D and Canon 100-400 LIS at full power. |

This monument represents the first air crossing of the south atlantic between Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro with "Lusitânia" in 1922.This air connection was established only in 1960, thirty-eight years after the trip of Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho.Finally, in 1966 air traveling became a regularly scheduled service through the initiative of TAP. |
