N12-153599 / 844 (cn 343C) This strategically mobile Military Airfield is the Royal Australian Navy's Aircraft Carrier HMAS MELBOURNE, at Garden Island Dockyard, Sydney on a hazy day in 1969. She was in her hey-day in 1969, flying Skyhawk and Tracker aircraft and Wessex helicopters. S-2E Tracker Codes 844 and 845 are visible on her deck. Code 844 was N12-153599, acquired in 1967, and written off in the Nowra Hangar fire on 04Dec1976. HMAS MELBOURNE was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984.

N7-213 / 823 (cn WA213) This strategically mobile Military Airfield is the Royal Australian Navy's Aircraft Carrier HMAS MELBOURNE, at Garden Island Dockyard, Sydney in 1969. She was in her hey-day in 1969, flying Skyhawk and Tracker aircraft and Wessex helicopters. Wessex Codes 822, 823 and 830 are visible on her deck. Code 823 was N7-213, acquired in 1963, and written off when she ditched on 13July1977. HMAS MELBOURNE was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984.

151444 (cn 452) This active-duty strategically mobile Military Airfield is the Vietnam War Era Aircraft Carrier USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43, San Francisco's Own), photographed during her 1970 R&R visit to Garden Island Dockyard, Sydney. Three F-4B Phantoms of VF-151 are visible (incl. 152252, 153034) as well as an A-7 Corsair II . Deja Vu 37 years later - This week (5-10July2007) this berth is occupied by USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63) on her last visit to Sydney before de-commissioning.

Code 889 was N13-154910, acquired in 1967, and written off when she ditched off HMAS MELBOURNE on 08Nov1973. The ship was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984.

152252 / 2252 (cn 930) This active duty Vietnam War era US Navy Aircraft Carrier is the USS CORAL SEA (CVA-43, San Francisco's Own), berthed at Garden Island Dockyard, during her 1970 R&R visit to Sydney. As well as some Corsair IIs, there are two identifiable F-4B Phantoms visible on the deck. They are 152252 and 151444 - operated by VF-151. Visitors are being moved to the flight deck on the ship's aircraft lift.

Two F-4B Phantoms (operated by VF-151) are on her aft ramp. NL-112 (152258) is at right and NL-106 is at left under the USA Flag. More F-4B Phantoms were on display on the Carrier's deck.
