She was in her hey-day in 1969, flying Skyhawk and Tracker aircraft and Wessex helicopters. S-2E Tracker Codes 844 and 845 are visible on her deck. Code 844 was N12-153599, acquired in 1967, and written off in the Nowra Hangar fire on 04Dec1976. HMAS MELBOURNE was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984. |

She was in her hey-day in 1969, flying Skyhawk and Tracker aircraft and Wessex helicopters. Wessex Codes 822, 823 and 830 are visible on her deck. Code 823 was N7-213, acquired in 1963, and written off when she ditched on 13July1977. HMAS MELBOURNE was paid off on 30June1982, and was towed out of Sydney for scrap metal in May 1984. |
