VH-JPB (cn W-27) Built 1985, built by Maurice Harnett & his son, completed by John P Bird (hence registration). First registered & first flown on 1 Aug 1985 by John P Bird until sold in 1999. Still regd in 2010, now owned by Howard Jones. Steve Wittman, a US air racing pilot since the 1920s, designed a number of racing aircraft. The Tailwind first flew in 1953 & was his most popular design - the first two seat aircraft approved for amateur construction after World War Two.

VH-TUB (cn V38) First regd 21.3.79 to John Brown. Written-off 29 January 1994 at Cape Naturaliste, Tasmania - yawed violently during water take-off, right wing hit water, aircraft cartwheeled, ended up inverted. Both aboard rescued, but aircraft sank and was not recovered. Cancelled from register 9.2.94. A different VJ-22 (cn N34) later used the same registration.

VH-GSS (cn 1752) 1990 Langley Park Fly-In. First regd 22.3.1972 to Adelaide Soaring Club, sold to Goldfields Gliding Club in 1976 then W S C Williams in 1979. Sold in 1990. Still regd in 2010. The Slingsby T-61 Falke was a licence-built version of the Scheibe SF 25B motor glider built in the UK by Slingsby Sailplanes. They also entered service with the RAF as the Silngsby Venture T1 and T2 for air cadet training. Only eight of this civilian T-61C version were built.

VH-DEA (cn D11-19/W15) Built & owned by Donald Allen. First flight 30.4.1978, it had two accidents in before obtaining an official Permit to Fly. Regd 30.4.1979, it later had three more accidents. Registration cancelled by CASA on 27.6.06. Behind is VH-WPO Cessna 172A (cn 47632 ex N9832T) first regd 30.8.1960 as VH-WPC, reregd VH-WPO 10.3.66. Bought by G L Browne in 1970 as seen here. To New Zealand as ZK-WPO on 6.7.1994 and still regd in 2010.

VH-ILZ (cn 304) Ex OK-LHC, then G-ATDZ on 20.5.65. Regd in Australia on 8.8.85. Written off 11.8.90 at Gardinia, Victoria - the aircraft increased power and pulled up to 3000 feet, rolled over into right-hand spin, did 6 or 8 spins then entered left hand spin. Crashed wings-level 45 degrees nose down. Engine is supposed to be at idle for spins. Registration cancelled 26.7.93.

VH-PUT (cn 22-6673) Built 1959, first registered in the UK on 31.7.59 as G-APUT, it passed through several owners until cancelled on 22.7.1977 when imported into Australia where it was registered VH-PUT on 24.11.1977. Purchased by Gregory Beel on 25.3.86, and was cancelled from the register on 24.11.86 as "withdrawn from use", and was converted from tricycle undercarriage to tailwheel configuration and returned to the register on 15.11.89. It is marked as a "PA-20 Pacer". Still regd in 2010.

VH-AYJ (cn 2346) Built 1947, first regd G-AJPX 12.5.1947 as "Auster V J/1 Autocrat". Delivered to Air Schools Ltd, Derby (Burnaston), UK. Cancelled 1.8.51 as sold in Australia - regd VH-AYJ on 22.11.1951. Re-engined in 1959 to J/1L - the Cirrus engine replaced by a 150hp Lycoming O-320. Converted to a J/1BL in 1965. Had a number of accidents in 1970s & withdrawn from use 1.8.79 - 14.12.84. Anthony Rees bought the aircraft in 1986 and sold it in 1994. The only Lycoming Auster in Australia in 1990. Still regd in 2010.

VH-KAB (cn 2644) 86 J1Bs were built, 30 joining the VH- register. Most were shipped engineless to Kingsford-Smith Aviation Service at Sydney, where engines were fitted & they were sold. This aircraft had registration G-AJXR reserved, but not taken up.Shipped to Australia & regd VH-KAB to Kingsford Smith Aviation Service Pty Ltd on 28 June 1950, and first flown at Bankstown 30 June 1950. Many owners since. Seen here owned by Alexander D Miller, Cowaramup, WA. Still registered in 2010 and based in WA .

VH-CKF / A17-421 (cn DHA596/T200) Built by De Havilland at Bankstown, NSW, in 1941 & taken on RAAF charge on 4.10.1941 as A17-421. After WW2 it was sold to Dept of Civil Aviation & converted to civil use. Regd to DCA as VH-AZL on 26.6.1947. Reregd VH-CAG 4.5.1949 & based in Perth. Sold 5.4.1960 to Gliding Association of Western Australia, and re-regd VH-TUG on 7 July 1960. Reregd VH-CKF 22.10.1965. After other owners was sold to MMA Captain Reg Adkins and his wife Shirley on 28 August 1986.

VH-AZT (cn DHA127) Original cn DHA853. Serial DX810 for Southern Rhodesia not taken up - kit sent to Australia. Del to RAAF as A17-721. Regd VH-AZT 27.9.46. 1959(?) fuselage of VH-BCW (c/n DHA127, ex A17-130 of RAAF which was WFU 10.10.47) was used in major rebuild, prior to sale. Kept reg VH-AZT & c/n DHA853. 4.5.1970 cancelled from register as withdrawn from use. 17.11.82 restored as VH-AZT, but with c/n “A17-130” Now painted in RAAF markings as A17-130.

Cancelled 6.7.06 by Civil Aviation Safety Authority. Steve Wittman, a US air racing pilot since the 1920s, designed a number of racing aircraft. The Tailwind first flew in 1953 & was his most popular design - the first two seat aircraft approved for amateur construction after World War 2. Prior to that you could only build single seat aircraft in the USA.

VH-MAA (cn 01-K5/W106) Built 1985, first registered 4 Feb 1985, first flight 14 Feb 1985. Powered by 118 hp Lycoming O-235. Still registered to the same owner in 2010. Jodels were made by a variety of French aviation manufacturers, but all construction ceased in the 1960s. Since then, they have been assembled by amateur builders. In Australia, Frank Rogers modified the original French design to meet Australian civil aviation standards, and this is one of the aircraft built using Frank Rogers' plans.
