[10:38] A nice view of PE's Control Tower which is operated by ATNS (Air Traffic and Navigation Services). ATNS are responsible for Air Traffic Control in approximately 10% of the worlds airspace. On the left a 1time MD-80/DC-9 (ZS-TRF) can be seen preparing for its flight to Cape Town (CPT/FACT) as flight 1T 703. Thanks goes to my Controller friend Nicholas who was in the tower at the time. Remark
Photographer
123 (cn 035) [15:13] This enormous chopper is seen inside the maintenance hanger which is mainly used to restore old South African Aircraft. It is been re-built to be preserved in the SAAF Museum next door, if they manage to fit it in. The 330C was an initial export production version and are powered by a Turmo IVB engine. There are only two other Puma's in SA, another 330C which is on static display and a still flying Puma SA-330H, both located at Swartkop Air Force base (FASK). [Canon 400D + 18-50mm @ 18mm]

She is powered by a 280 hp BMW Lycoming GO480-B1A6 flat six piston engine giving it a maximum speed of 167 knots ( 309 km/h - 192 mph) at sea level. There are very few of these aircraft still flying. Note the registration is Zulu Uniform (ZU) instead of the usual Zulu Sierra (ZS). [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 20mm]

ZS-OAM (cn 24164/1702) [12:55] Taxing to the gate after arriving on runway 08 from Cape Town (CPT/FACT) as flight MN751. This aircraft has recently been painted in a green 'Europcar' livery with a special football nose to promote the FIFA World Cup 2010 which is coming to South Africa next year. This aircraft did a fly-by at the Port Elizabeth Airshow 2008 on my 18th Birthday. She previously flew with Air Europe, Malaysia Airline, Jerdan Bermuda, Dan-Air London, British Airways (UK) and Air One. [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 36mm]

ZS-OTH (cn 25841/2222) [10:45] Showing a nice view of the Harbour just after takeoff from runway 08 at Port Elizabeth (PLZ/FAPE) on our way to Cape Town (CPT/FACT) as flight MN754. This Harbour will no longer be used in a few years time as they are currently building Africa's largest Harbour called Coega around 12 miles (20 kilometres) North East of this shot. On this day I also flew on kulula Boeing 737-400 (ZS-OAG) from FACT-FAJS and a British Airways Boeing 737-200/Adv from FAJS-FAPE. [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 18mm]

Remark

ZS-NWA (cn 20757/1002) [16:33] One of three Safair IAC 727F's that operated cargo services from Johannesburg (JNB/FAJS) to Cape Town (CPT/FACT), Durban (DBN/FADN) and Port Elizabeth. All three aircraft (ZS-NWA, ZS-IAC and ZS-OBN) are sadly now stored at Johannesburg waiting to be scrapped. An Antonov 32B or DC9 are now used in its place. I will miss hearing the great sounds this classic produced. [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 55mm]

Algoa Flying Club
Cessna 172
Port Elizabeth (- H.F. Verwoerd) (PLZ / FAPE)
South Africa, June 9, 2009
Remark
Photographer
ZS-MBP 13:48] MBP's cockpit as seen inside a dark hangar. The instruments and controls were done up last year and it recently got a new interior. This is now the most modern aircraft in the Algoa FC fleet of Cessna 152's and 172's. I've flown over 30 hours on this very aircraft although I did my first solo in Algoa's other Cessna 172, ZS-KSF. The Cessna 172 first flew an incredible 54 years ago in November 1955 and cruises at 122 knots (140 mph / 226 km/h). [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 18mm]

ZS-OTF (cn 25305/2147) [18:06] Throttle quadrant view of this Boeing 734 as we climb to 31,000 feet out of Durban (DUR/FADN) onboard the daily flight to Port Elizabeth (PLZ/FAPE). Today's flight was delayed by 3 hours and 34 minutes but I didn't mind as I got to sit in the jumpseat for the entire flight. Thanks to the friendly crew and Pilots. This aircraft previously flew with British Airways (UK) as G-DOCC. [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 39mm]

ZS-TJS (cn 45-083) [17:12] Cabin shot of this little mid sized corporate biz jet. She can comfortably carry 8 people a maximum of 2500 miles (4000 kilometres) around the world at a maximum height of 51,000 feet. This aircraft was apparently bought by Tokyo Sexwale (a businessman and ex South African Politician) for his wife. Thanks to the two Pilots for allowing me to have a look inside and for allowing me to take this shot. [Canon 400D + 18-55mm @ 18mm]

Remark

ZS-TRD (cn 48022/1079) [13:23] Seen just after arriving from Johannesburg (JNB/FAJS) as flight 1T 511. The wind was gusting 55 knots on this day causing this old bird to do a hard landing and then taxi with the wind behind it. You can even see the tire marks it produced when the Pilot turned her onto the ramp (bay 6), you thought he would of used the brakes before making the turn. All the passengers got on and off using the stairs at the rear as it was too windy to use the air stairs. [Canon 400D + 100-300mm @ 125mm]
