4R-SER (cn 1799) Delivered just a few weeks earlier from Horizon in Australia (my shot of A6-ABM gives a summary history of this interesting frame). By virtue of being a very active SLAF transport base, this is one difficult place to visit, and access to the fascinating SLAF Museum here was sadly denied. The airport was built in 1934 as Colombo's first terminal and served in that role until Bandaranaike (formerly RAF Negombo) was opened on the other side of the city in 1967 |

CH-635 This Mi-24 is hovering above Mihintale. A place of spirtual significance for the Sri Lankan people. This is the place where Bhuddhism originated in Sri Lanka. I wondered what the monks, looking at us standing on the mountain endge, were thinking.... |

CH542 (cn 31235) This Bell-212, loaded with relief goods, passes the damaged village of Arugam Bay, on the east coast of Sri Lanka, on its way to a camp for displaced people. Arugam Bay was one of the many villages severely hit by the tsunami. What I noticed was that the people of Sri Lanka are really grateful for all the support that was given to them from all over the world! |
