VH-THY (cn 205) Front view of Civil Registered Bell 204/UH-1B helicopter VH-THY (Cn 205), in US Army 'Medivac' markings, on static display at the ADF Open Day at the Townsville Army Base in Sep09. (The helo also did a flying display over the Strand on 26Sep09.) This is the first UH-1B I have seen since flying in 5 Sqn RAAF 'Bravos' in 1969. (This helo is older than the RAAF's First UH-1B, A2-384, Cn 384, Del: Oct1962). |

A2-485 (cn 11773) Rare low res Front View of RAAF ARDU UH-1H A2-485, in Special White livery, at RAAF Fairbairn in 1987. A2-485 is parked next to 5 Squadron's Hangar 46. The helo (Del: Jun1970) had been painted White for Service with the Multi-National Force of Observers (MFO) at El Gorah in the Sinai from 1982-86, and she retained the White livery with ARDU. (The helo crashed into power lines near Queanbeyan NSW on 17Nov1977. She was later repaired and returned to 5 Squadron Fairbairn.) Apologies for quality. |

A2-389 (cn 389) Rare low res Front View of RAAF 5 Squadron UH-1B A2-389, being used as an Instructional Airframe at RAAF Fairbairn in 1989. A2-389, ex US Army 62-4611, was Delivered to 9 Squadron Fairbairn on 10Feb1962, before that Unit departed for Vietnam. She stayed at Fairbairn and transferred to 5 Squadron when that Unit was Raised to train air and ground crews for duty with 9 Squadron in Vietnam. This helo was withdrawn from use in Jan 1985, and was Allocated for Training Use in Dec 1988. Apologies for quality. |

A2-649 (cn 5649) Rare low res view of RAAF 35 Squadron UH-1H A2-649 at RAAF Base Townsville, in January 1988. The helo is wearing an experimental 'geometric' camouflage livery. A2-649, ex US Army 66-1166, was Delivered to 5 Sqn Fairbairn in Nov 1967, as a UH-1D. She was transferred to Army in Dec 1989. No 35 Sqn was a 'Composite Squadron', operating two aircraft types. (Two Caribous and A2-377, in standard camo livery, are at rear.) Apologies for quality of this 22 year old photo. |

The helo was used for two sight-seeing Tours, which lasted 18 mins or 48 mins, and circled both sets of Mitchell River Falls. (The Tours started at the Mitchell Falls Helipad, which is a 6 min flight from the Company Helibase.) |

A2-384 (cn 384) Rare In-Service View of RAAF UH-1B Iroquois A2-384, and other Hueys, photographed in 5 Squadron Hangar 46 at RAAF Fairbairn in July 1983. UH-1B A2-388 and UH-1H A2-507 are also visible at rear. The occasion was a Reunion which marked A2-384's 21st Birthday. A2-384 was the First Iroquois Delivered to the RAAF - in Oct 1962 - in Silver and Dayglo Orange 'Rescue' livery. The aircraft ( US Serial 62-4606, Built July 1962) was retired in Mar 1985, and sent to RAAF Museum Point Cook Victoria. Low res photo. |
