TA The Carniceros (butchers) fly out of the Bolivian Andes into the Amazon lowlands to bring back a load of meat into La Paz. For these two hours forth and two hours back across the Andes a mechanic has to patch up 60 year old wiring, hydraulics, electrics and a pair of 18 cylinder Curtiss Wright R-2800-34 Double Wasp piston engines. |

9332 / 2-B-13 The Curtiss-Wright BFC-2 was an inter-war biplane, primarily a light bomber. This example was flown by the High Hats squadron of the USS Saratoga. With their BFC-2s, the squadron were the first to develop dive-bombing tactics. This original Goshawk is one of only two remaining in the world (the other is reportedly in Poland). Preserved at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL. |
