G-AROV (cn 6460) I photographed this Dan Air Comet at Gatwick on the final Sunday of the nearby Farnborough air show. It is a 4C, the civilian equivalent of the RAF’s C.4, a variant which featured the long range of the 4 with the increased seating capacity of the 4B. Dan Air used them in the late ‘sixties and early ‘seventies for charter flights to holiday destinations mostly in the Mediterranean. This one was acquired by Dan Air from Argentina in 1971 and wfu in 1981. (Note the Dan Air Mini van.)(Scanned from a slide) |

G-BDIX (cn 6471) Analogue heaven! East Fortune is a smashing little museum, well worth a visit if you get the chance. For me at least, Concorde was eclipsed by this beautiful classic! |

XK699 (cn 06035) This Comet, "Sagittarius", the only Mk. 2 surviving and has been the gate guard at RAF Lyneham since 1987. It entered service with 216 Sqn, RAF in February 1957 until its retirement in 1967. With the impending closure of RAF Lynham, its future must be in doubt, especially as enquiries reveal the airframe has deteriorated considerably over recent years and would require major restoration to save it from being scrapped. |
