This Meteor was delivered to the RAAF in August 1952, and she served with 77 Sqn from Kimpo South Korea. She was acquired by the MAM from Point Cook (Fire Training School). A77-707 Rare low res 'pre-restoration' rear view of Meteor T7 A77-707 (former RAF WH118) on outdoor display at the Moorabbin Aviation Museum (MAM) in early 1974. This two-seat Meteor was delivered to the RAAF on 08Sep1955, and was withdrawn from use on 10Jul1959. She has been progressively restored by MAM staff (and was in Red/White livery in 1988). She is now back in silver livery, and still displayed outdoors. (Meteor A77-867 ex WK685 is visible at rear.) Apologies for quality of this 36 year old photo. |

WH291 35 years ago this Meteor was retired as the final example of the type to be flown by the RAF. Today she sits in a frosty field, the SWWAPS museum having now closed, it's exhibits are slowly moving to new homes. |

VT229 / 60 Mk IV Meteors are particularly rare; this one served with 66 Sqn and then 203 Advanced Flying School, RAF Driffield (the first RAF jet flying school), in whose original markings it is seen here at Duxford on a lorry which belongs to a Newark firm. It was subsequently restored, thankfully in these original colours, and displayed at the Newark Air Museum from 1983 to 1991, when it was exported to Kermit Weeks’ Fantasy of Flight museum in Florida, registered N229VT. (The Javelin behind is XH892.) |

A77-871 Rare low res view of single-seat Gloster Meteor F.8 A77-871 on 'Gate Guard' duty at the Main Gate of RAAF Base Richmond in 1992. Deja Vu. I photographed this aircraft on Gate Guard duty at RAAF Base Wagga in Feb 1969. (I don't know why she was moved to Richmond.) The blue paint on the fin was damaged by trees at Wagga. This aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in March 1953 ex RAF WK791. This Meteor has a Blue tail and the logo of the 'Meteorites' Aerobatic Team on her nose. |
