This is dedicated to those who are unaware of the rapid growth of aviation industry in Nigeria. Top: Bands of rain pass over runway 18R. Top left is the boneyard. Center: from left to right, a scrap market, offices for air freight agents, a chaotic pilgrim processing center and the main cargo terminal. Bottom: Jet A1 tank farm and a truck park crammed with the tankers that supply it. Sorry for the poor quality due to the rain. [Nikon D300}. |

OV-105 (cn OV-105) With commander Chris Ferguson, pilot Eric Boe and flight engineer Stephen Bowen in the cockpit, the orbiter's 3 hydrogen-fueled engines ignited at 120-millisecond intervals, creating a man-made cloud of steam as the exhaust hit jets of cooling water. 7 seconds later, after flight computers verified the engines were spooled up and in spec, the orbiter's 2 solid-fuel boosters ignited at 19:55:39 H, hurling the 4.5-million-pound "stack" towards the Heavens. G-FFOX / WV318/D (cn 41H/670788) Flight safety incidents affecting historic aircraft worldwide lead to increasingly stringent restrictions on their operation in the UK by the CAA. Whereas Delta Jets used to sell fast jet flights, it now offers them as part of fractional ownership sales. The company has recently merged with Air Atlantique whose jet operations are also to be centered at Kemble. (Thanks to Delta Jets for access)(400D; Canon 28-135 USM & fluid-head tripod; 5th sec exposure; no stabilization) |
