56-6722 (cn 389) National Museum of the US Air Force. Overview of the Cold War Gallery. The U-2A is the last one made. In the 1960s it made 285 flights to gather data on high-altitude, clear-air turbulence and in the 1970s it flight tested reconnaissance systems. Some other highlights of the collection are below it: a Northrop F-89J Scorpion (foreground), a Martin RB-57D (right), a Lockheed SR-71A, a Northrop B-2A, a Boeing B-1B, etc. What an amazing place! Canon EOS 40D, EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. |

60-6937 (cn 131) The A-12 was the predecessor of the SR-71 and was in service from 1962 - 68. It was then put in storage in Palmdale, CA until 2000, when it was brought here for display. Only 13 of these were built, and only 8 remain on display across the country. The A-12 was capable of reaching speeds of mach 3.2 and was the world's fastest aircraft. |

141884 / 5 (cn 201) Now repainted into the color scheme of its counterpart at the Pima Air Museum in Tuscon, Arizona, this Grumman F-11F Tiger now sits on the flight deck of the USS Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum in New York City. The Blue Angels livery stands out nicely with the other US military aircraft behind, including the Lockheed A-12 (predecessor of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird). It might be bitter cold outside, but that doesn't stop people from enjoying the aircraft displays at this museum. |
