XD818 XD818 inside the National Cold War Museum at Cosford. This is the only place you can see intact examples of all three V-bombers. |

XD818 The only remaining full example of a Valiant anywhere on the planet, XD818 was the actual aircraft that dropped Britain's first hydrogen bomb. It was later moved to the RAF Museum at Hendon and now resides in the new Cold War museum at Cosford, restored to its original anti-flash white colour scheme (but completely impossible to photograph) |

XD875 Just one complete Valiant bomber exists today, whilst a handful of cockpit sections have survived the years. This is the flight control panel of one of those cockpit sections, now located at the Highland Aviation Museum on the airport perimeter. |

XD818 The last surviving Valiant was moved from London late in 2005 to Cosford. Here she waits outside for her turn to enter the Cold War building. This aircraft is a significant piece of British history as it was the aircraft which dropped Britain's first hydrogen bomb (or was it really a fission bomb? There is some controversy!). The names of the crew on that day are painted near the entry hatch. |

WP209 Taken almost exactly 50 years ago at the 1955 Farnborough SBAC Air Show, this is a relatively early Vickers Valiant. Kodachrome transparency taken by my late father, David W. Baldock. |
