A16-199 / SF-R (cn 414-6464) The Hudson was the military version of the Electra airliner and entered service with Coastal Command in 1939 on anti-submarine and reconnaisance duties. This particular aircraft was delivered to the RAAF in 1942 and actually was responsible for two Japanese kills during WWII. After the war this airframe was placed on the Austrailan register as VH-SMM and -AGJ before returning to the UK, firstly to the Strathallan Collection and then the Hendon Museum. |

A16-199 / SF-R (cn 414-6464) While visiting the RAF Museums at Hendon, I was surprised to see a dismantled RAAF Lockheed Hudson outside. (She is now complete, restored, and Inside!) She was delivered to the RAAF in April 1942 (ex RAF FH174) and was sold to Macquarie Grove Flying School in Sep 1947. She was sold to John Fairfax & Sons in Dec 1950 (VH-SMM), then to Sepal Pty Ltd in June 1966 (VH-AGJ), and Adastra Aerial Surveys in Oct 1969. (Blackburn Beverley XH124 is at rear.) The only flying Hudson in 2008 is at Temora NSW - VH-KOY. |

A16-199 / SF-R (cn 414-6464) The Lockheed Hudson was a military version of the Super Electra, and entered service with Coastal Command in 1939. It was used for anti-submarine and general reconnaissance duties. Many Hudsons were later stripped of their armament and used to transport Allied agents in and out of Nazi-occupied Europe. |

A16-199 / SF-R (cn 414-6464) Originally operated by the Australian Air Force, then used extensively in Australia as a civil survey aircraft. Transferred to the Strathallan collection in Scotland in 1973 before moving to Hendon. Although she's restored into her air force colours, she still retains her survey configuration i.e. non-standard nose glazing, metal skinned canopy and no turret. |
