A3-100 (cn 100) Rare close cropped view of 75 Squadron Mirage IIIO(FA) A3-100 on 'Gate Guard' duty in the open at the Main Gate of RAAF Base Darwin in 1998. A3-100 was the last single-seat Mirage built by GAF (Delivered Dec1968), and 75 Squadron was the last RAAF Squadron to fly the Mirage, before transitioning to F/A-18 Hornets. This aircraft (in dark Grey livery) is one of the few RAAF Mirages which escaped being stored at Woomera and sold to Pakistan. Low res photo. |

A3-42 (cn 42) Rare low res view of 77 Squadron Mirage IIIO(F/A) A3-42 parked on the RAAF Wagga Parade Ground in 1986. (This location suggests that she was not being used as a Training Aid by the RAAF School of Technical Training (RAAFSTT.) This Retired 'Miracle' has two 286 Imp Gal (1300 litre) external fuel tanks fitted. (A3-72 was also occupying a corner of the Parade Ground that day.) I also photographed A3-42 on display at the Drage Aviation Museum at Wangaratta in 1997. This is one of the few RAAF Mirages which escaped being stored at Woomera and sold to Pakistan. Apologies for the low quality of this photo. |

A3-86 (cn 86) Rare low res Air to Air photo of 3 Squadron Mirage IIIO(F/A) A3-86 (with supersonic and centre-line fuel tanks) climbing over waters south of Singapore. The aircraft was being flown by 'Trudy', in formation with 75 Squadron Mirage IIID A3-108, on a 0.8 hour trip from Singapore to Butterworth, Malaysia. On 03Apr1981, the BUT-Sing trip in A3-108 took 0.6 hours, achieving Mach 2.0 at 45,000 ft. (Thanks Baz S.) A3-86 was delivered in May 1968. When retired, A3-86 was stored at Woomera and sold to Pakistan. |

A3-36 (cn 36) A crash-damaged Mirage on display outside the Darwin Aviation Heritage Museum' in 1998. The 75 Sqn 'Miracle' had an engine flame-out (due to a sticking 'Stops Corrector' in the Accel. Control Unit) on approach to Darwin Airport. The Pilot, Flg Off John Quaife (now AVM Quaife), ejected and the aircraft pancaked wheels-up onto the Ludmilla mudflats. The centre-line fuel tank was ripped off and the 'Miracle' skidded to a stop on her supersonic tanks. A3-36 has now been restored, in 75 Sqn camouflage livery. |
