Polikarpov Po-2
In Flight
France, September 16, 2006
Remark
Photographer
F-AZPN (cn 80518) Flying the "Kukuruznik" which is Russian for "Corn Cutter" with the Shvetsov M-11 5 cylinder air-cooled radial engine doing pfut pfut pfut is an unbelievable experience. Nato nickname of this in 1926 designed A/C was "Mule" and made its first flight in 1928. With between 30 and 40000 build it is the second most produced aircraft but only few airworthy are left. Here seen on final for the grass strip(it doesn't have a rear wheel nor brakes) at the oldest airport in France Maubeuge-Elesmes

F-AZPN (cn 80518) Rare but original Po2 in airworthy condition. This type was used as night fighter during WW2 when it flew thru the streets of Stalingrad by woman who became legendary as "the Night Witches". A participant of the Lelystad Bi-Plane fly in at 10-11 Sept.
