France - Air Force
Nord 1500-02 Griffon II
Paris - Le Bourget (LBG / LFPB)
France, June 20, 2007
Remark
Photographer
F-ZWUI / I (cn 2) Seen in the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace, the Griffon was a response to a 1953 requirement for a light supersonic interceptor. The prototype first flew in September 1955 and this, the second aircraft flew in January 1957. In October 1959 it attained a speed of Mach 2.19, 2,300km/h at 15,000 metres. The pathetic on-camera flash provided just enough light to illuminate the engine intake

Remark

F-ZWUI / I (cn 02) In the 50s, a flourishing "Industry of Prototypes" brought through genuine and daring exercises of style: as Griffon II, one of the first and few turbo-ramjet powered aircraft; research program ended this same 1959 year, after more than 200 test-flights since its 1st take-off on January 23, 1957.
