Loganair
De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter
Barra (- North Bay / Traigh Mhor) (BRR / EGPR)
UK - Scotland, March 21, 2009
Remark
Photographer
G-BVVK (cn 666) One of the two Loganair Twin Otters that serve the Hebrides is seen here on Traigh Mhor beach after its seventy-minute flight from Glasgow, a wonderfully informal operation by today’s standards, with the flight deck door open all the away and the First Officer stepping over the Captain’s sandwiches to do the safety announcements. Cruise was at 140kt at 6500ft. This Otter was previously with Wideroe as LN-BEZ, and still bears Norwegian signage in the cabin.

De Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 Twin Otter
Glasgow - International (Abbotsinch) (GLA / EGPF)
UK - Scotland, March 21, 2009
Remark
Photographer
G-BVVK (cn 666) This Loganair Twin Otter is seen here unloading from its previous flight before turning round and departing for the Hebridean island of Barra as Flight BE6855. The airport surface at Barra is the sand of Traigh Mhor beach, so flights are dependent on tides. The Captain told me that despite the remote north Atlantic location, flights are rarely cancelled because of weather and crews can land in winds of up to 70 knots, although current regulations allow for only 50. That’s still quite a wind.
