HI-548CT (cn 4202) seconds before touchdown on runway 9L. Thanks to Dominican carriers such as this one Miami saw a wonderful revival of Connie operations during the late 1980's and early 1990's. This particular Connie was delivered to the USAF in 1956 as 54-0183, and was written off while in storage at Santo Domingo on September 22, 1998, when a C-46 Commando collided into it during Hurricane Georges. |

HI-548CT (cn 4202) In the late '80s, Santo Domingo was the Connie capitol of the world, with Aerochago, AMSA and Aerolineas Argo all flying the type. Propliner fans flocked to SDQ, Miami or San Juan to see the last working examples in the world, and even maybe hitch a ride on one. The F.A.A. grounding of Dominican registered airplanes due to safety concerns in the early '90s put paid to all of that. Both of Aerochago's Supers can be seen laid up in this view taken on SDQ's cargo ramp. |
