PH-LDE (cn 749A-2641) Being refuelled for its trans Atlantic flight, engineer/refueller on the wing appears to have a dip stick in his hand, probably checking fuel levels or oil. The Wright Cyclone R-3350-C18-BD-1 engines were known to use vast amounts of oil. Photograph was taken into the mid-day sun on old grainy Agfa colour negative film. Note the TWA Boeing 707 (N744TW) in the background - jets on the Atlantic had just arrived. |
