PH-MBN (cn 46924/218) Seen sitting on the Mirabel tarmac less than 1 month before this aircraft sadly crashed at Faro, Portugal. While attempting a second landing in rain and high winds, the plane's wing tip hit the ground causing loss of control, subsequent roll and then an explosion. Of 340 passengers aboard, 56 lost their lives. This photo was scanned from our 4x6 print set. |

PH-MBN (cn 46924/218) "Anthony Ruys". Seen on taxiway Alpha going to ICC. First flight was October 29, 1975. Delivery date was November 26, 1975. Other serials - PH-MBN with Singapore Als Cargo, Air Seychelles, Manadala Als, Garuda Indonesia Als, and World Awys. Sadly, W/O December 21, 1992 as PH-MBN with Martinair Holland at Faro, Portugal. On landing in thunderstorm, right wing separated while aircraft slid down runway, and stopped near rwy 11 and caught fire - 54 fatalities r.i.p. Note 3 American Airlines 747's lower left. |
