VH-AES (cn 6021) Avalon International Air Show 2013 - It was nice to see the DAKs back in the air at Avalon. The last time I saw this bird it was sitting idle at Tullamarine airport, Victoria. She was gleaming in the more pleasant conditions of the weekend. The livery depicts Trans Australia Airlines first DC-3. This particular aircraft was first registered in Australia on the 6th of September 1988 and was manufactured in 1942. |

VH-AES (cn 6021) Trans Australia Airlines first DC-3 VH-AES doing a wheels down flypast over Bundaberg's Rwy 14 at the 2007 Wide Bay International Airshow. The polished aluminium skin on this aircraft looks brilliant. I photographed this aircraft hanging from an archway at Tullamarine (Melbourne) in 1982, and again (Static and Flying!) at Richmond NSW in 1988. She has also appeared regularly at Australian Airshows, and participated in the RAAF 90th Anniversary Air Pilgrimage, finishing at Point Cook on 31Mar2011. |

VH-AES (cn 6021) TAA retired their venerable DC-3 VH-AES and later displayed her in Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport Terminal carpark, next to a Taxi rank. (The Terminal building is at rear.) The aircraft, then painted silver, was displayed in a banked flight attitude (with wheels down), suspended from an archway. She was later returned to flight status (in bare metal finish) with TAA - Hawdon Operations, to the delight of Classic Airliner enthusiasts. |
