VH-JAW (cn J-26) Nose wheel collapse. The crew had flown it in as usual to collect oil crews for Bond Oil’s “Harriet” field on Lowendal Island, but after 30 mins on the ground, the nose oleo deflated, slightly damaging the nose gear doors. It was was all repaired in 3 hours and the aircraft departed to Lowendal Island. Built 1947 as a Mallard, reg NC2966. 1972 cvtd by Frakes to Turbo Mallard. 1975 to C-GHUM. 1983 to N2419X, then VH-JAW. 1985 to Vowell for Bond Oil contract. |

VH-JAW (cn J-26) Built 1947 as NC2966 & based in France for next 20 years. In 1952 when owned by Christian Dior, famous passengers included Aga Khan & King Farouk of Egypt. 1966 sold and based in Michigan, USA. 1972 bought by Frakes & converted to Turbo Mallard & used as a demonstrator until 1975 when it became C-GHUM. 1983 sold to Air Whitsunday (ferried as N2419X) & regd VH-JAW. 1985 sold to Vowell and seen here on delivery. Used to fly oil workers to Harriet oil field,Lowendal Island. To VH-PPT of Paspaley Pearling. |
