Auster C-4 Auster T7 Antarctic
Cosford (EGWC)
UK - England, December 27, 2012
Remark
Photographer
WE600 (cn WE600) In 1955 Auster modified two T.7s, (along with WE563) for use in the Commonwealth Trans-Antartic Expedition, to be known as the Auster Antartic. Alterations included better radio equipment, a larger tail surface, use of floats or skis as required and a bright-orange high-vis scheme. After returning from the expedition this airframe was allocated the non-flying serial 7602M and was delegated to display status paving the way for her eventual arrival at Cosford during 1989.

Auster C-4 Auster T7 Antarctic
Cosford (EGWC)
UK - England, August 9, 2008
Remark
Photographer
WE600 Built in May 1951 and delivered new to the Royal Air Force as a T7 trainer, in traditional gloss-silver scheme with yellow fuselage and wing bands. Converted in Jul-1955 to Antarctic specification including the SARAH air-sea rescue beacon on the roof, larger tail surfaces, bright orange scheme and the ability to be mounted on skis or floats. Flown in Antarctica in 1956/57. Returned to the UK and re-painted in trainer yellow. Moved to RAF Museum Cosford in 1989 and restored in 1996 then again in 2007.

Auster C-4 Auster T7 Antarctic
Cosford (EGWC)
UK - England, August 9, 2008
Remark
Photographer
WE600 In 1955 Auster Aircraft modified two Auster T7s (WE563 & WE600) for the 1956 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Dr Vivian Fuchs. Changes included extra radio equipment, larger tail surfaces, the ability to be fitted with floats or skis and the bright orange finish to aid visibility. There is some debate as to whether the original scheme was much more orange than this resoration - very important details to those buidling the Airfix model kit of WE600.

Remark
Photographer
WE600 (cn WE600) This T7 was modified for use in the 1956 Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition led by Dr Vivian Fuchs. In that role it was known as the 'Auster Antarctic'. Now preserved at Cosford, it appears to have lost both wings and skis, at least for the moment.
