Panavia Tornado F3
Leuchars (St. Andrews) (ADX / EGQL)
UK - Scotland, August 21, 2009
Remark
Photographer
ZE164 / HO (cn 532/AS017/3239) The pilot of "Scimitar 21" taps his forehead three times with his hand to ensure his wingman - yes, there are two F3s pictured - is aware that the brakes off signal is imminent. Pictured in the gloamin' about to depart for a night time sortie which would include a flypast over Edinburgh Castle at the Military Tattoo.

Panavia Tornado F3
Leuchars (St. Andrews) (ADX / EGQL)
UK - Scotland, 2008
Remark
Photographer
ZE164 / GD (cn 532/AS017/3239) Standing by...Q1 - the designator for one of two Tornado F3s on Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) or just Q for short - sits fully crewed-up in its Hardened Aircraft Shelter (HAS). Nos. 43(F) and 111(F) Squadrons are the last remaining Tornado F3 units tasked to provide crews and aircraft at 10 minutes readiness, 365 days a year, to police the UK's airspace. Q jets are typically armed with 4x AMRAAM and 4x ASRAAM air-to-air missiles, plus high explosive rounds for its internally mounted 27mm Mauser cannon.
