Australia - Air Force
McDonnell Douglas F/A-18B Hornet
Newcastle - Williamtown (NTL / YWLM)
Australia - New South Wales, January 2002
Remark
Photographer
A21-105 (cn 0217/ATF105) 77 Squadron's tandem Hornet returns to RAAF Williamtown after exercises at Rockhampton, just in time for lunch. I was told this 600NM hop took around 35-40 minutes at cruise power. With 1st stage afterburner I'd imagine this time could be reduced to 25 minutes. Note the backseater enjoying the view on short finals.

McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet
Newcastle - Williamtown (NTL / YWLM)
Australia - New South Wales, May 2002
Remark
Photographer
A21-21 (cn 0470/AF021) Of 3 Squadron taxiing out to the active runway. This Hornet is wearing a trial paint scheme which was applied to some Hornets in 2002. The high-vis roundels and Squadron markings have been replaced by low-vis markings. I believe this Hornet was part of a six ship flight which conducted Air to Air intercepts over the Pacific Ocean.

Remark
Photographer
A21-29 (cn 0527/AF029) "Condor One taxi to holding point runway one two". A 75 Squadron Hornet visiting Williamtown for a radar upgrade and some minor modifications. The RAAF Hornet is now roughly halfway through it’s service life and the attrition rate of the fleet is quite incredible. In 15 years, the RAAF has lost just 4 of the 75 aircraft purchased in the mid-to-late 1980’s which is an excellent track record.
