XK740 (cn FL4) This lightweight fighter was designed by W E Petter as a private venture in an attempt to stem the weight and cost increases of combat aircraft. Powered by a Bristol Siddeley Orpheus turbojet with fuselage mounted u/carriage which also serves as an airbrake when partially extended. 740 is the 2nd development aircraft and flew at Farnborough in 1957.
