Melbourne - Essendon (MEB / YMEN)
Australia - Victoria, February 12, 2006
Remark
Photographer
A proclamation in the Commonwealth Government Gazette on August 11th 1921 announced the purchase of 36.8 hectares of land which was to become Essendon Airport. It was initially referred to as St. Johns after an early landowner in the area. The aerodrome originally sported grass runways which remained until the Second World War. The tarmac was built in 1946, five years before the first international flight which arrived from New Zealand. Unfortunately, residents have been complaining about noise since 1930

Boeing Vertol CH-46E Sea Knight (107-II)
Memphis - International (MEM / KMEM)
USA - Tennessee, November 8, 2005
Remark
Photographer
154854 / YS (cn 2461) This CH-46E is from the HMM-162 "Golden Eagles" based out of MCAS New River in Jacksonville, NC. Back in the mid-70's my father served in this squadron and did two Med Cruise tours with the unit. It was a joy (and a bit of luck) to be able to catch the old Yankee Sierra bird in Memphis. HMM-162 officially stood down on December 9, 2005, and is in the process of transitioning to the MV-22 Osprey.
