VR-BIG (cn 1508) Built 1978. Ex G-BFKZ, VH-WOF, G-BFKZ. Seen after return from onshore oil support contract with Pacific Helicopters in PNG. Oil rigs drilling in mountains between 3,000ft-9,000ft above sea level, so Puma was stripped of floatation gear (as seen here), radomes etc. Later painted in Mayne-Bristow colours as VH-WOF. W/o 12.5.91 Mermaid Sound, Dampier- on marine pilot pick-up from departing LNG tanker in night VFR conditions, entered vortex ring state and ditched. Stayed afloat for over 2 hrs. |

VH-BHV (cn 8049) Built 1968 ex G-AWIL,VH-BHV,G-AWIL. Seen here after registration correctly painted (previously it had an upside-down R instead of B painted on). On contract to Pilbara Harbour Services (hence PHS logo on door), to ferry marine pilots/harbourmasters out to salt and iron-ore carriers entering the nearby port of Dampier. Written-off two months after this, on 20.11.86 - ditched near East Intercourse Island, Dampier. |

Owned by supermarket & department store giant Coles-Myer Pty Ltd, owner of all Target, K-Mart, Coles, and Myer stores in Australia. Arrived with execs to celebrate opening 21st K-Mart store in Australia. Pilot used to fly 125-700B VH-HSS of Shell. VH-HSP previously owned by Westfield Pty Ltd, a shopping centre giant, who replaced it with a Challenger 601. To VT-OBE. |
