CCCP-3501002 (cn 002) Russian space orbiter Buran on its way to the "Technikmuseum Speyer" near Mannheim just passing the Südbrücke in Mainz. This particular one never took off into the outer space but performed around 25 atmospheric test flights from 1984 to 1988. For that purpose it was equipped with normal jet engines to allow an independent take off. I really hope the guys in Speyer will repair most of the damages and give it a new shiny look in the original paint with the old soviet markings. |

CCCP-3501002 (cn # 8 - 002) This spaceframe, built in 1984, was used for landing tests. First flight Nov. 10, 1985. It was equipped with four AL-31 jet engines, two of them are still visible on this photo. After performing 24 flights, 18 of them fully automated it was stored at Zhukovski from 1988 till 1999. In 2000 & 2001 this shuttle was on display at Sydney, before it was brought to Bahrain. Now this Buran is on its way to the Technik Museum Spyer. Seen here on river Rhein (km 765,7) at Krefeld Urdingen in late evening sun. |
