Where once the Viscounts came to train... Originally an RAAF base, Mangalore was developed after the Second World War as a diversion aerodrome for when Melbourne/Essendon was fogged in, its location north of the Great Dividing Range giving it good weather when the weather in Melbourne was bad. The field is still much as it was then. The nearest runway is 05/23, the photo looking east toward the township of Avenel. |

D-ABUB (cn 26987/466) Historical day, "Condor 072" arrives starring its new destination: Recife! For a long time in middle 80/90's, Recife received flights from Germany, specifically from Dusseldorf and Munich in the wings of LTU. Now, after a long time without flights, Recife is receiving flights from Germany again, this time, in the wings of Condor from Frankfurt. Arrived with 225 POB, a good number for a flight beginning in the winter. Willkommen Condor! |

VH-AUZ / A17-159 (cn DHA160) 'Salvation Jane' at the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's National Fly-in. This aircraft seems to have been a late starter in its civil career, having first been registered as VH-BTM as late as 5 May 1954. It seems to have suffered a crash in 1959 or 60 and to have been resurrected as VH-AUZ in 1994. |
