57-6487 (cn 464192) The low winter sun gently illuminates this 416th Bombardment Wing BUFF as it approaches the Griffiss runway. A classic B-52 color scheme, often referred to as SIOP (Single Integrated Operational Plan, or the unified Department of Defense nuclear war plan which dominated Cold War military thinking), it was initially applied in 1965 during the Vietnam War, when the USAF began camouflaging combat aircraft in general. This Stratofort models it well in this light, and it would last several more years. |

85-0103 / EG (cn 956/C345) The specially marked commander's plane for the 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin AFB, FL passes NAS Atlanta on its way the end of Runway 11. The 33rd maintained a tradition of naming the CO's bird Gulf Spirit since first receiving the Eagle in 1978, and the title may be seen here on the nose; the insignia of the 3 squadrons may also noted on the intake nacelle: the 58th Gorillas, 59th Golden Pride, and 60th Fightin' Crows. At Dobbins due to hurricane evacuation. |
