What about restarting some Hawaii flights from SFO. DL has basically given the market to UA & HA. Who wants to go to SEA or LAX to connect? Plenty of tourism from SFO/OAK/SJC yet no DL.

UA tried a merger w/US before AA & was denied by the Feds, otherwise CLT would have become UA's southeast hub. As a result, UA still lacks a Southern hub unless one considers IAD in the South.

CLT replaced the entire length of 36C with new concrete a few years ago. They should have added 1k feet to the south end which they probably could have done. They also could use displaced thresholds for landing traffic on both ends & probably would have been able to max the strip out to 11500 or...

CLT had approval to extend 18-36C many years ago but abandoned that plan in favor of a new runway. Only problem w/long distance trips from CLT (including HNL) are the hot temps in the summer. which is why 27R in ATL has been incrementally extended over the years to 12k+.

The 762 failed due to fuel stops enroute. Also ATL's O&D is less than 40% as an average....not sustainable without feed either. Some on here assume that AA is incapable of capturing any of the DL feed.

56 years and counting. My point is that UA needs a domestic connex hub serving the SE (IAD isn't it and has never been it) .... or UA never penetrates the SE. IIRC, DL still had the rights to those cities from PanAm....just because the routes were dormant didn't mean that the "rights" were relinquished. I don't believe that there was any opposition to Delta resuming service to those cities whether it was from Europe or JFK/ATL. PanAm's original ...

What DL has in Africa and parts of Europe were PanAm routes just as UA got the Pacific/Asia routes. Many of the Scandinavian & Eastern European routes have been abandoned over the years as have some of the less lucrative African routes.

DL has always played 2nd in CLT since the beginning of time, first to EA, then PI/US/AA

As previously stated, maybe LAX & SEA could be a possibility, with maybe a 2nd SLC late afternoon departure. As long as AA continues as is, it doesn't make sense to do otherwise except possibly BOS.

IIRC US used a 762 which continually had to make fuel stops in PHX or LAX to make it over the Pacific (due to headwinds). Just for orientation purposes the shades should be up on takeoff & landing. Anything else is not safe. Shades can be lowered before deplaning or after takeoff. This seems to have gone off the deep end towards stupidity.

DL flew both DC-10's and L10's to LGA, no jetways, in the 1970's. The D10's were leased from UA until the L10's were available.

Seems like AA has fairly good service Nationwide from CLT. Increase frequency otherwise. 787 service to TYO would make more sense than some of the other wishlists that I've seen such as AUS, BNA or RDU. At least there are connex to feed it (even from MIA :D )
