There would be a decent benefit to connect Terminals 1 and 4 inside security as domestic arrivals on Delta could depart on AF or KE without re-clearing security. That's really the only benefit I see.

I think what they mean is that IAD is further and further Northeast from most deep south markets than ATL or CLT, increasing the cost of accessing the feed and increasing travel times on traffic to Florida, the Midwest, Southwest, and West compared to ATL or CLT.

UA will not return to DAL. UA is clearly not very interested in secondary airports. They don’t serve HOU, OAK, MDW. Yes, Advanced started out serving LAX via FBO but realized connecting by road between the FBO at Hawthorne and the passenger terminals at LAX was just as fast as the FBO at LAX.
